The Day Beckerman Came
tags: XanGo Soccer

Last Wednesday Kyle Beckerman stayed after RSL training at XanGo Soccer Field to shoot some footy for a friendly podcast. I lucked into the childhood dream of standing on the same pitch as a pro soccer player, chasing balls and popping in for random segments to offer some sawdust resistence to Beckerman’s scoring.

Beckerman smoked my JV defense and my JV mustache over and over for the camera.

Beckerman showed us all how to bend an orange rock around a four-man wall into the upper V of a goal.

The wall couldn’t help but fall to pieces in the face of that ball. (When I called it an orange rock I wasn’t kidding. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever kicked, and I grew up kicking aggregated diamond nanorods.)

Proof that I’m pretty cool and so is my job.
Surely we’ll post the podcast when it’s finished. Though I didn’t get to know Kyle on any deep personal level, he was an obvious cool guy and a good sport. When I was driving home from work on Thursday I noticed he was back on the field playing soccer with a bunch of little kids, and they were all as excited as I was the day before.
All of us at XanGo are huge fans.
