XanGo Cup

2006
Viewers worldwide tuned in, 45,000+ people crowded into Rice-Eccles
Stadium in Salt Lake and 22 men stepped on the field to decide the
outcome of the first XanGo Cup. The hometown underdogs stepped up their
game to meet the visiting Galacticos head-on. The match was back and
forth; the crowd was up and down. The stars shone, the orange glowed,
the world watched—and Real Madrid walked out with a 2-0 victory, laying
claim to further ownership of the “Real” name. Real Salt Lake’s
performance was just as impressive and everyone in attendance left
satisfied. People came from all over the United States and more than 25
countries to Salt Lake City to see this match (and yes, David Beckham).
2007
Two international clubs, each over a century old and collecting cups all
the while, are en route to Salt Lake City for the second annual XanGo
Cup. During a 4-day block that marks Utah’s Pioneer Day and RSL’s new
practice field opening at XanGo HQ, Real Salt Lake will take on Everton
FC and Boca Juniors.

Saturday July 21, 8 p.m.— Everton FC, founded in 1878 and playing top quality soccer ever since, is the 6th ranked team in England’s Premiership and oft winners of English Division 1 before the Premier League’s inception. Their talent, tradition and experience will test out our mettle and movement on a world stage set in Rice-Eccles. Fireworks will follow, literal and metaphorical. Click here to visit Everton FC site
Tuesday July 24, 8 p.m.— Boca Juniors, founded in 1905, are currently ranked 2nd in Argentina’s Primera División, holder of 22 championships and recent winners of their 6th Copa Libertadores (beating out ALL of South America). They will bring their quick-trick South American style of play to the field at Rice-Eccles to try and disrupt Real’s rhythm. After the match, Utah’s largest Pioneer Day fireworks display will signal the successful end of the 2nd annual XanGo Cup. Click here to visit Boca Juniors site
